Synopsis :
RISE – In Search of Peru’s Sacred Waters follows scientific explorer Nicolas Plain through the Andes and the arid valleys of Peru in search of vanishing water sources. Meeting rural communities, engineers, and traditional knowledge keepers, he uncovers ancestral techniques and modern innovations aimed at restoring the water cycle. From melting glaciers to ancient underground irrigation systems, the film reveals how territorial resilience depends on a renewed alliance between nature, knowledge, and technology. A powerful journey into the heart of global water challenges — with striking parallels to those faced in France.

CINEMA PREMIERE SCREENINGS AND IMPORTANT DATES

AQUAFONDO – Water Fund for Lima & Callao (Peru) : is a pioneering water fund that mobilizes public and private investments to protect, restore, and conserve the watershed ecosystems feeding Lima and Callao. Founded in 2010 with support from The Nature Conservancy and officially incorporated in 2016, it supports restoration of amunas—traditional Andean infiltration canals—dam slope stabilization, lagoon recovery and reforestation in the upper basins of the Chillon, Rimac, and Lurin rivers. These nature-based measures enhance groundwater recharge, secure water supply for the city, and boost community resilience to dry season stress. AQUAFONDO’s work directly impacts over 40,000 local residents and indirectly benefits hundreds of thousands through improved downstream water security and ecosystem restoration.
SMMAR – Syndicat Mixte Milieux Aquatiques et Rivières : manages flood risk, aquatic habitats, and water resources across the Aude, Berre, and Rieu river basins in southern France. Their key actions include:
Aquatic habitat restoration: restoring wetlands, river continuity, riparian vegetation, and natural hydromorphology to support biodiversity and improve flood resilience
Water resource management: monitoring drought conditions via a weekly diagnostic committee (CGE) that brings together local stakeholders to balance resource availability and user needs during dry periods
Flood risk prevention: implementing local flood risk strategies, public awareness campaigns, flood markers, and corporate vulnerability diagnostics through initiatives like the PAPI and Aud’Alabri system
Education & training: raising awareness among local communities, schools, elected officials, and businesses using the travelling exhibition “Exp’Eau,” educational materials, videos, and public workshops
